The Swiss Norwegian Beam Lines at the European Synchrotron Radiation facility (SNBL at ESRF) provide scientists from both Norway and Switzerland access to synchrotron radiation. SNBL operates around the clock state-of-the-art, custom-designed instrumentation for x-ray scattering and absorption experiments. Typically the samples that are being studied are subjected to external stimuli such as temperature, gas or liquid flows and pressures.
As “all-round” technician, you will be deeply involved in many of the technical aspects associated with the operation, development and maintenance of the SNBL.
Your mission includes:
- Participation in the mechanical design and upgrades of new and existing scientific instruments including sample environmental cells
- Provide technical assistance to the beamlines operation and user service
- Keeping track and performing regular maintenance on the beamlines
- Operate, organize and maintain the SNBL workshop
Expected profile
- You should hold a technician degree (BSc, Licence, HND, HNC, BTS, DUT, Bachelor, Meister, Vordiplom, Perito, Laurea Triennale, Diplomatura, Ingenieria Técnica or equivalent through experience) in mechanics or scientific instrumentation
- At least 5 years of professional experience
- Ability to produce complex SolidWorks 3D models and technical drawings
- Ability to machine simple mechanical pieces on lathe and CNC milling machine
- Knowledge and/or experience in precision mechanics and scientific instrumentation
- Knowledge and/or experience in ultra- high vacuum, instrument control, electronics, and 3d printing will be strong assets but is not mandatory
- Ability to work and communicate fluently in an English speaking international environment

Responsibilities:
- Review jobs/prints upon receipt
o Balloon print for inspection based off of tolerance, features, concerns, future operations
o Fill out inspection sheet based off of ballooning/risk assessment/machine tool accuracy or capability
o Identify questions/concerns/missing information for customer/sales
o Identify grind stock requirements
- Identify/research/quote needed workholding and tooling necessary for a cost effective, efficient, on time completion of project
- Populate a plan of processing based off of the following:
o Material
o Lead Time
o Machine tool availability
o Tooling
o Tolerance (GD&T, surface finish, etc.)
o Next operation (heat treat, turning, grind)
- Clean and deburr parts for next operation/shipment
- Continuously plan ahead
o Predict timing / duration of operations
o Predict duration of setup
o Ability to setup while having other machines are running and plan for it
- Clean area and machine tools / perform preventative maintenance on machine tools / diagnose machine tool issues as necessary
- Complete high quality work, on time, with minimal scrap & rework.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have the following experience:
- 10 years of machining experience, journeyman certification preferred?
- Experienced Mastercam user
- Experience in 4th and 5th axis machining
- Experience running CNC Mills and/or Lathes
- Experience with Mazak, Integrex, Milltronics, Haas, CNC Horizontal, and Manual Lathes /Mills
- Experience with set up and programming
- Ability to read a basic blue print
- Strong math abilities (decimals, fractions etc.)
- Able to perform quality checks
- Must be able to read, write, and edit G-Code
- GD&T understanding and experience
- Must have knowledge and use of specialty tooling

CNC Machinists (2 positions available)
Due to significant growth and a long term backlog of work, McDonough Manufacturing has immediate openings for two (2) CNC Machinists on 1st shift. These positions will be responsible for producing machined parts by planning, programming, setting up and operating CNC and manual machines while maintaining high quality and safety standards at all times.
Qualified candidates for this position will have the following:
- A Machine Tool Associate Degree or 2+ years prior CNC Machining experience is preferred
- Must be able to read and understand blueprints.
- Must have solid knowledge of tooling and usage.
- Have a strong attention to detail.
- Have a positive attitude and be able to communicate openly and respectfully.
- Flexible to work overtime hours when required.
Our Day Shift is scheduled to work 5 days, Monday –Friday from 6:30am to 3:00pm.
